Fargo Means Business

At Kennelly Business Law, we know that Fargo, North Dakota is a great place to do business. Our team has spent our careers here, and made Fargo our home because it's a wonderful place to live and raise a family. Our region is full of some of the most remarkable and caring people on the planet, but we do business here because there are tremendous opportunities in Fargo. Whether in healthcare with Sanford or Essentia, in R&D, education and innovation with NDSU, in high tech with companies like John Deere and Microsoft or with any of the hundreds of area small businesses, our region is full of business opportunities. While we've known this for a long time, it seems as though the rest of the world is realizing it lately as well. As reported in the Forum, 24/7 Wall St. found North Dakota to be the 5th best State to do business in the US. A big component of that ranking was that the State's gross domestic product annual growth rate was a stunning 7.7 percent from 2010-2015. That's best in the country, outpacing high growth states like Texas and Florida, and four times the national average! In the same week, the Forum published results of a study from California-based startup HeroPay, which ranked Fargo as one of the best cities in the US to start a business. Ranked number four overall, Fargo received high marks for its low unemployment (1.9 %) and its short average commute time of 16.8 minutes. These studies - and the attention they've drawn - only show us what we already know to be true about our region when it comes to business. No matter the temperature, Fargo is always a place for hot business opportunities, growth and investment. Are you thinking about starting your own business? Smart Planning Through LLC's

Business owners work far too hard to establish and grow their operations, only to have their hard work undercut in court.   No matter how diligent you may be, all it takes is one lawsuit to derail everything you built. Despite the multitude of demands on your time, you just can't afford to leave your assets unprotected. At Kennelly Business Law, we partner with clients to review operations and identify potential gaps and weaknesses when it comes to liability. One of the more significant tools we have used to protect our clients is the use of limited liability corporations or LLC's. An LLC is quite simply a formal business entity created for a specific purpose. They can be used as an outgrowth of an existing business, as the operating entity of a small business or as a tool for real estate, among other uses. Here are some simple tips to keep in mind if you're considering developing an asset protection strategy that includes LLC's:
